Israel’s ongoing strike campaign against Iran, along with Iran’s retaliatory actions, reflects the long-standing and deeply rooted conflict between the two states. At the heart of this rivalry is Israel’s consistent objective to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities and dismantle its ballistic missile program, which Israel views as direct threats to its national security. On the other side, Iran has pursued a strategy of regional influence by supporting and arming proxy groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Palestine, and the Houthis in Yemen. In addition to Iran’s past direct strikes on Israel, these groups have served as instruments of Tehran’s power projection, enabling it to exert leverage over adversaries like Israel without engaging in direct confrontation.
